I think twinkie is kind of a derogatory term if you’re half-Chinese and half-American. A friend of mine said that when somebody calls you twinkie it? means ‘yellow on the outside (skin), white in the middle’ (because of American blood or something of that nature).
So if your classmate was half-American and half-Chinese then that’s probably why she flipped: someone was making comments about her Chinese-American heritage.

Okay, somebody help me out here, what’s up with the word ‘twinkie’? I remember there was this one girl who was Chinese in my class,? she got pissed when somebody called her that and nearly handed the dude who called her that his ass.

i grew up in an all white area and my parents were the first to move here and now i live in a more asian populated city (new york) so i know what im talking about. i’ve also visited LA, Boston, Texas, etc.. my step family are 3rd and 4th generation.. i’ve lived in? hong kong, and china…etc..i think i have a very good understanding of what it means to be asian american.

it’s another kick in the ass for asian american males i think. and another show that could increase americas fetish for asian girls. asian american families who speak entirely english (3rd generation) usually are so american that those chinese values that were embellished on the show doesnt even exist. they speak and act entirely american.?

i LIVE in new york, and? all chinese american families do not sound like that at all.. and the older generation speaks chinese while the young ones speak english. granted, this is a tv show so they can’t do that and americans hate reading subtitles. i dunno. this show just doesn’t do it for me.

What? a stupid, ignorant comment. Idiots like yourself have probably never paid attention in school to realize that there have been generations of Asian-Americans in the U.S. What Asian-American family talks like that? Try any Asian-American family living in Hawaii… or any 4th or 5th generation Chinese or Japanese family living in the U.S. You are an idiot.

This makes me cringe because I made the opposite move, from? Bakersfield to San Francisco. Growing up asian in Bakersfield back then was NOT fun.

What??? I’ve well over 30 cousins and we ALL speak? English and in fact most of us by far ONLY speak English. Instead of being obtuse aout it, why don’t you just get down to brass tacks: What exactly is your point, that is, outside of your not so well-hidden racist beliefs?

oh my god. this makes me cringe.. what asian american? family talks like that? first of all, it;s usually not in english…
